Today (Friday): It will be a rather cold day with a locally frosty or icy start. There will be spells of sunshine throughout the day. However, heavy showers already in some northern areas, will spread across much of the country, with a risk of hail and thunder at times. There will be wintry showers over northern hills. It will be a fairly breezy day.

Tonight (Friday night): Showers will clear in the evening to leave a largely dry and clear night, with just a little patchy cloud around. Cold with a widespread ground frost by morning and localised ice in places. Mist and fog developing too, particularly across Scotland.
